BEGINNING Crochet

This class will teach you basic crochet stitches (slip stitch, crochet chain, single crochet, double & half-double crochet), as well as how to read a basic crochet pattern. Class_ContinentalDescription: The more efficient way to knit!  This class is especially oriented to those who already knit and "throw" their yarn but who wish to change to the "picking" method.  This skill is required for Fair Isle knitting.  (1) two-hour session.

Introduction to Lace

Class_IntroLaceDescription:  *NEW CLASS ALERT!* By creating a lace washcloth you will learn how to do a provisional cast-on, how to work from a chart, how to do a decorative cast-off and how to create intentional “holes” in your work with Yarn Overs for a lacey effect. Basic knitting skills are required. This is a three hour class. The first session will be 2 hours and the second session is 1 hour. 2 student minimum.

Entrelac
Instructor:  Evelyn McAneny
Class Fee:  $35

Class_EntrelecDescription:  The Entrelac method gives the impression of interwoven strips of knitting. By creating this effect you will learn how to do short rows and to pick up stitches along an existing edge. You will learn how to use a provisional cast-on so that you can add a decorative border and how to do a decorative cast-off . Basic knitting skills are required. This is a three hour class. The first session will be 2 hours and the second session is 1 hour.

 We will be working from the Entrelac Scarf pattern by Allison LoCicero that will be provided. Although the pattern suggests an aran weight yarn, the model was done in silk.

Fingerless Mitts – two-at-a-time

Class Fingerless MittsDescription: Chilly hands when driving or walking, but like to be able to manage keys and money? Fingerless mitts are a perfect gift for yourself or a family member or close friend. In this class we will be using Mother’s Day Fingerless Mitts as our pattern. You will learn how to make both at the same time on two circular needles, as well as beading with a crochet hook. Must already know how to knit and purl. You will also make a gusset for the thumb. (2) two-hour sessions with homework between.

Fair Isle Techniques

Class_IntroFIDescriptionSheila Joynes, author of the best selling Leisure Arts book, "I Can't Believe I'm Fair Isle Knitting" will teach you the basics of two handed, stranded color knitting called Fair Isle.  Sheila will share the best cast on technique for corrugated ribbing to help prevent those unsightly puckers in your purls.  Do you know where and how to join yarns to prevent having to weave in all the endless ends created in Fair Isle?  Do your attempts at Fair Isle knitting create a puckered project?  The technique taught in this class will show you how to knit Fair Isle without endless ends and those puckers.  Class projects are a Fair Isle cowl and hat. **Continental knitting technique highly recommended.**   (2) two-hour sessions for a total of 4 hours of instruction and on-going support groups.

Class_BeadedCounterDescription:  Count your rows with just the touch of a finger!  Make your own simple to use row-counter bracelet with authentic Swarovski pearls, gemstones and seed beads.  It's like a mini abacus with each small pearl signifying 1 row and each large pearl signifying 10 rows. After each completed row, push a small pearl through the pretty beaded ring.  When the 10th row is complete, push all the small pearls back to the start and replace with a large pearl.  you can count up to 99 rows with this bracelet.  Perfect for both knitters and crocheters!  you'll have your pick of a variety of color pallets.  Supply fee includes all materials needed and printed instructions.

Double Knitting

Description
: Double Knitting

Double Knitting is a form of knitting in which two side of a fabric are knitted simultaneously on one set of needles.  You will end up with a double-sided piece with the colors reversed.  This is an advanced technique class, and students must be familiar with the following skills:  knitting/purling, long-tail cast on, knitting in the round, as well as being familiar with reading charts.  (2) two- hour sessions – Session 1:  coffee cozy, Session 2:  beverage coasters

Block Party
Instructor:  Sandy Payne
Class Fee:  $15 per class

Class_BlockPartyDescription:  Learn new techniques while completing a beautiful afghan one block at a time.  Sutdents will use Sandy's AGYS exlusive pattern to complete 12 blocks and will also learn how to create the connecting strips and how to assemble the final product.  This class is held on an on-going basis.  Students may start any time and work at their own pace.  Fee includes 2 patterns per class and final assembly of blocks.(1) two hour session.

Finishing Classes

Blocking: The first class in blocking.  Sandy will walk you through blocking your project.

Description: Drop in to get assistance with your knitting:  reading a pattern, picking up a dropped stitch or other quick fixes to get you back on track with your project.  This is not a class for learning new techniques. If you need to learn a new technique for example, cables, short rows, assembling a project or blocking, you may schedule time with Sandy in 15 minute increments. (15 minutes = $10.00, 30 minutes = $15.00)

Description: Comfort for Critters is a 100% volunteer program that creates handmade blankets to comfort homeless pets living in animal shelters. While these animals await adoption, the blankets provide a comfortable bed year-round. When they are adopted, their blanket goes with them, providing something familiar as they adjust to their "forever family." Do you love to knit, crochet, sew or work with fleece? Do you have a special place in your heart for animals? If so, you sound a lot like us! Join in the fun and let your handiwork make a forgotten pet's life a bit better. No Class Fee

Description: Between Sandy's recent scare with breast cancer and the phone calls we get daily for breast prosthesis, has inspired Sandy to re-start a Knitted Knockers group on There is a huge need to keep our supplies of prosthesis filled. Please join her in helping with this cause.  Yarn, pattern, and support will be provided, so just come with your needles or hooks ready to make some Knit/Crochet Knockers. *As a side note, Sandy's health is great, and she thanks us all for the power of prayer that helped lead her to a negative diagnosis.  No Class Fee
